Statement on NYC Public Schools AI Policy
Fairplay Campaign Director David Monahan released the following statement today:
“We agree with our partners in the AI Moratorium for NYC Schools coalition that this new policy, while a step in the right direction, raises serious concerns. The policy has too many exceptions to truly protect students from AI harms; it’s too short-term; it fails to address racial bias and environmental impacts; and more.
“AIM has been saying all along that New York City Public Schools need a two-year pause on AI to craft the most democratic and durable policy for students and the community. It’s not too late to heed their call. We urge Mayor Mamdani and Chancellor Samuels to listen to the parents, educators, and other community voices in AIM, and extend the pause on AI while working to create the stronger AI policy New York’s children and families deserve.”
