Fairplay welcomes House committee approval of KOSA and COPPA 2.0
(WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2024) — Fairplay, the leading nonprofit committed to helping children thrive in an increasingly commercialized, screen-obsessed culture, welcomes the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s approval of the Kids Online Safety Act and the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act at a markup hearing today.
“Today’s markup was a big step forward for KOSA and COPPA 2.0. We are excited to see these bills advance,” Fairplay Executive Director Josh Golin said. “Today’s vote was a necessary step in the process, but it is not the final version of KOSA. We will continue to work with House and Senate leaders to make sure the bill provides the online protections that all young people deserve.”
The Kids Online Safety Act would be the most important new law to protect children online in more than 25 years. According to a recent bipartisan poll, over 85% of voters support the legislation.
KOSA and COPPA 2.0 both passed the Senate in late July by the overwhelming bipartisan margin of 91-3.
