Fairplay, the leading nonprofit committed to helping children thrive in a screen-obsessed culture, released the following statement today.
Fairplay Policy Counsel Haley Hinkle said: “We cannot allow AI companies to put the lives of other children in danger. We’re pleased to see these families, some of whom have suffered the ultimate loss, receive some small measure of justice. But we must not view this settlement as an ending. We have only just begun to see the harm that AI will cause to children if it remains unregulated.
“Rather than wait for the courts to act, or for more parents to lose their sons and daughters, Congress must step in now to pass legislation to protect kids from the dangers of AI chatbots. Let this settlement be a wake-up call about the need for systemic change to keep our children safe, and to prevent more children from dying.”
