ABOUT — WHO WE ARE
Our Mission
Fairplay works to enhance children’s well-being by eliminating the exploitative and harmful business practices of marketers and Big Tech.
For over 25 years, we’ve been the leading voice putting kids’ needs ahead of corporate greed. And our work is driven solely by what’s best for children: Fairplay does not accept donations from Big Tech or any corporation.
Our Impact
Fairplay has
- Helped get phones out of schools
- Organized parents to demand online safety legislation
- Stopped Meta from releasing a version of Instagram for little kids
- Held Google, Amazon, and other mega-companies accountable for violating children’s privacy law
- And much, much more.
In 2026, we will launch a new Strategic Plan that will uniquely position Fairplay to take on current and future threats to childhood, including emerging threats like AI.
Our Mission in Action

Our FTC complaint against Google and YouTube forced the platform to limit data collection.

We successfully pressured Mattel to cancel the release of its always-on digital assistant, Aristotle.

We campaigned against Meta’s planned Instagram for kids app, leading to a “pause” on the app’s development.
Mobilizing Parents to Pressure Policymakers and Big Tech
We cofounded ParentsSOS, a network of survivor parents whose children died as a result of online harms, including suicide, drug use, and deadly viral challenges. These amazing moms and dads have transformed their grief into action, helping to get the Kids Online Safety Act passed 91-3 by the US Senate.
The 3,000 experts, researchers, and advocates in our Screen Time Action Network are working every day to help kids and families find time away from commercialized digital devices – and for the play, exploration, and face-to-face relationships all kids need.

Creating Screen-Free Time and Space for Kids
Our phone-free schools campaign has helped get phones out of school in 18 states and counting!
Our resource library offers tips and guidance for caregivers who want to learn about limiting screen time and advertising in their own homes.
Our Screens in Schools Action Kit has guided educators, administrators, and school systems to change the way they think about using edtech and digital devices in the classroom.
